Stockholm travel guide
Located on the east coast of Sweden at the mouth of lake Malaren is Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. The largest city in Scandinavia, Stockholm is a city literally floating on the water dispersed among fourteen separate islands. The most stunning and probably most visited of these islands is Gamla Stan the ‘old town’ that has maintained its old medieval streets and houses among many other things the Royal Palace. The Stockholm Archipelago just to the east of the city has another 24,000 islands, islets and rocks that visitors can explore.
It is no wonder that Stockholm was voted European City of Culture in 1998 with its continual flow of exhibitions and events. The city boasts no fewer than 70 museums one of the most of any city in the world.
Stockholm is city renowned for its vibrancy and cultural heritage and makes a fantastic destination for anyone looking for a little more than just a city break.
