6,072 metres long and supported by 156 pillars, Oland bridge is the longest in Sweden and one of the longest in all of Europe. Completed in 1972 Oland Bridge connects Kalmar in mainland Sweden with Färjestaden on the island of Oland.
The bridge has a characteristic hump at the western end that serves to both give a sweeping effect across the Kalmar straits and more practically offer a 36 metre high clearance for shipping purposes.
