Lake Vattern

Image

Lake Vattern is the second largest lake in Sweden and stretches up from it’s southern central position like a slender finger. 1912 kilometres square and a maximum of 128metres deep, Lake Vattern has probably the cleanest large body of water in the world. Most of the surrounding areas use the water of the lake as their main supply after little if any filtering.
Lake Vattern is a very popular fishing destination amongst the Swedes and there are a number of organised fishing trips that take place throughout the year. The lake is home to some of the best salmon and Char fishing in Europe.
There are many other activities going on in the surrounding areas of the lake such as hot air ballooning festivals and the annual 300 kilometre cycling race around Lake Vattern in June called the Vätternrundan.
